BARRY
Some frames start with a drawing. This one started on a golf course.
Barry is named after my friend Barry Franzblau.
Barry is a great optician. We occasionally play golf together. And despite being a great optician, for some inexplicable reason he used to wear some rather questionable glasses on the golf course.
I tried to ignore them.
I couldn't.
Eventually I decided they were affecting my game. ;)
So for Barry's birthday — I'm not telling you which one, because I'd like to remain his friend — I did something I don't normally do: I designed a frame specifically for him.
The starting point was our South West, but I wanted Barry's version smaller and a little softer. Fine titanium keeps it light, acetate rings give the front more definition, and the double bridge adds just enough sportiness without turning it into a “sporty” frame.
It's strong, but not hard. Technical, but not technical-looking. And light enough to wear comfortably for eighteen holes — including all the time spent looking for your ball.
The birthday present eventually became part of the FHONE collection.
And Barry finally had proper glasses to play golf in.
My game, unfortunately, did not improve.
